School classes and youth groups almost all over Europe will collect plastic to support the study of plastic pollution in European rivers in the Plastic Pirates Spring Sampling Period from May till July. Are you curious? Then join the fight against plastic pollution and come aboard!

Plastic Pirates – Go Blue Schools!

In March, the Plastic Pirates had the privilege of showcasing their project to 15 enthusiastic educators from the EU and neighbouring countries during the Science Project Online Workshops (SPOWs) organized by the Network of European Blue Schools. The workshop's primary aim was to explain  how the Plastic Pirates initiative seamlessly integrates into the Blue School framework.

Citizen Science Reveals Plastic Pollution in Lithuanian Rivers

The Lithuanian Center for Physical Sciences and Technology has published an article utilising the data from the Plastic Pirates' samplings in Autumn 2022 and Spring 2023! Beyond the analysing the litter composition, the study emphasizes the important role of citizen science in shedding light on the contamination of Lithuanian rivers.

Plastic Pirates at EU4Ocean

The Plastic Pirates have joined the EU4Ocean Platform! The EU4Ocean Platform serves as a hub for organisations and initiatives to connect, collaborate and mobilise efforts on ocean literacy. The EU4Ocean Platform – together with the Youth4Ocean Forum and the European Network of European Blue Schools – is a key component of the EU4Ocean coalition.

European Maritime Day

The European Maritime Days will take place in Svendborg, Denmark from 30-31.05.2024. More information here.

You can also join the Plastic Pirates side event in Svendborg on 29.05.2024, including a presentation of the project, and the new coastal protocol. Further information will be soon available on our website soon.

To all teachers: The ProBleu Call is OPEN until April 30th!

ProBleu is dedicated to enhancing water literacy in schools across Europe and in 18 associated countries. In this 2nd funding call, schools can apply for grants of up to €10,000 for projects lasting up to 12 months. Apply now!

Currently, 13 European countries are actively taking part in Plastic Pirates' campaigns: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain.
