The Plastic Pirates explore new shores and will be sampling at coastlines and beaches! Plastic Pirates from several countries have started to explore plastic waste on coastlines and beaches. The German Plastic Pirates will be the first to systematically collecting data on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.

Now available: Project Booklet Guide in Arabic
Plastic Pirates are heading towards Egypt

Egypt is joining the Plastic Pirates in the fight against plastic pollution! Teachers and youth groups leaders can download the project booklet guide in Arabic now. The guide provides step-by-step instructions for young people on how to collect scientific data during their sampling excursions. We can’t wait to see the first results from the Mediterranean Sea and other aquatic ecosystems in the region.

Beach clean-up event in France

Beach clean-up event in France: 50 primary school students from Boulogne-sur-mer took the chance to become Plastic Pirates for one day and gathered data on plastic pollution on the North coast of France. Among the collected items were fishing gears and nets.

German Plastic Pirates conquer the Danube

German Plastic Pirates conquer the Danube! Starting in autumn 2024, the German Plastic Pirates are launching a new project focusing on the Danube river system and its tributaries such as Isar, Inn and Lech.

Preliminary Data Report

A brand new Plastic Pirates data report is available! Check-out the new data overview of sampling periods from September 2022 to January 2023 in nine European countries. 290 samples at various sites along European rivers and coastlines have been collected. The preliminary overview shows analyses the litter quantity, litter composition, litter accumulation and potential litter sources.

Currently, 13 European countries are actively taking part in Plastic Pirates' campaigns: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain.

Plastic Pirates - Go Europe! is a European CitizenScience campaign in which school classes and youth groups collect plastic samples at streams and rivers and document their results. The collected data is being analyzed by scientists.
